Reconnect with the Snake in your Dream

The snake featured in your dream is most likely a transposed image or symbol of something that’s actually happening or preoccupying you in your daily life. It’s important to remember and recall the presence of the snake as it was in the dream.

For example, you can project yourself back in the dream, recall all sorts of details about what the snake looked like, how it was moving, how you were feeling. You could even imagine you can ask the dream snake questions about its intentions, what message it has for you, etc. This will get you started in decoding what the snake in your dream could symbolize.

Snake Dream & Call from the Unconscious

When interpreting a snake dream, a key point is to keep in mind that the serpent in your sleep means you’re symbolically receiving a wake up call from your unconscious.

Dreaming about a snake is usually an indicator that you need to pay attention to something important that you perhaps have been avoiding or that has escaped your awareness until now. Interpreting your dream will help you discover what it is and what you could do to about it.

When you’re dreaming of a snake, you can use your interpretation to encourage positive changes in your life. A snake dream can function like a two-sided coin: For each negative feeling in the dream, such as fear, apprehension, anxiety, or confusion, there’s an opportunity to realize something positive that will serve you in your waking life.

Bonus: Snake Symbols in Popular Myths and Traditions

The symbolism in a snake dream is primarily anchored in the personal life of the dreamer. Because the snake is a powerful symbol in many traditions and cultures, a snake dream can also be influenced by a wider meaning given to the snake or serpent in one’s culture.

In the Judeo-Christian tradition, the snake tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden. It is tinted with negative connotations and a symbol for temptation, evil, and sin.

In the Hindu tradition, Lord Siva wears a snake around his neck, as a representation of the control of dark forces and temptation. It also symbolizes the power of kundalini, the life force.

In ancient Greek mythology, Medusa is a Gorgon, represented as a woman with snake hair who can turn into stone whoever she looks at. According to the psycho-analytic perspective, it is a symbol for castration or repressed sexual energy.

Another popular Greek myth is about Aesclepius, Greek god of healing and medicine, who inspired rituals where snakes were used. Today, the rod of Asclepius is what we know as the Caduceus, symbol for modern medicine. In our dreams, it represents the opportunity for healing.

The feathered serpent from the Aztecs of South America is a symbol for the creator of life.

My snake dream started out me finding a baby snake in my room, to which I checked on my pet snake and found him as well as another snake(which was actually from a dream several months ago) coiled around each other and surrounded by eggs, one of which was broken, I assume that’s where the baby came from? I then poured some milk into a tray and the baby went inside it and whilst drinking the milk changed from pure white to black, blue and green
My mum came in the room and tried to pick it up but it kept coming to me and seemingly crying? I woke up after putting the snake in my shirt pocket and felt like I’d lost a part of myself and wanted to go back to the dream even though i don’t like snakes that much xD

I had a dream of three snakes intertwined. They were separated by someone whom I couldn’t see his face and didn’t know him by stature and he left the rattlesnake. In the dream I was bitten (more like bloody scratches)down my back and stomach. I don’t remember any pain but could see the bloody scratches/bites graphically. I don’t know where the snake went but my dream switched to me sitting in my group (I’m a counselor) and the members stating I didn’t look so well. I explained to them I had been bitten 63 times by a snake but that I was fine and I had survived. What could this mean?!

last night I dreamt of a small short black snake. It was in my house and hid behind the curtain and then went in to a cupboard. My cats wanted to play with it, and I freaked out in my dream and starting yelling at my boyfriend to get the snake and I kept the cats away. I couldn’t see it in my dream any longer but knew it was in the cupboard and then one of the actresses from CSI popped up in a memory and asked me why the snake was there, and told me this kind of snake would only stay if i fed it. I told her I wasn’t feeding it and it must be stealing left over food off the counters at night (we sometimes don;t refrigerate left overs until the morning). She touched a similar snake in my memory (except the one she touched was like stiff and had a cobra like webbed head). I told my boyfriend to be careful to not hurt the snake, but that he needed to get it out of the house.

That was the dream, and I woke up. I wasn’t scared when I wake up like I usually am when I wake up from snake dreams (usually I wake up in a panic and throw the covers off and switch the light on and look for an actual snake). I was just curious about what the dream meant.

Last night I dreamt I was climbing snakes like ropes.  The snakes were layered and against each other creating a long path.  They were all different sizes and shapes.  I did not see their heads and they were not moving.  I was not struggling to climb but did look for thicker snakes to grab onto.  I was happy that I found a way to go where I needed to.  I don’t know where I was going when I woke up.  But in my dream in my mind I knew where I was going.  I was telling lots of other people that I found a path.  They were scattered about trying to find there way.

Last night I dreamed that a rattle snake & a dark green snake was on my night stand squirming around. I didn’t realize it was rattle snake until I saw its tail. There was a blue bowl they were in as well. The snakes didn’t do anything to me. One started to hiss but not at me. Once I realized they were snakes I screamed for my mom, she said oh I bet it’s nothing then soon after I woke up.

  • Dreamer...

I’m having a lot of dreams about snakes recently…I’ve always had nightmares about snakes. Here’s one:

I’m visiting my friends in a big mansion in the sky, they calmly sit on their couches and them we go on a walk outside. Once we come back, me and my cousin(who’s also somehow there) see a table and we want to get closer to it, but then we see a snake that’s half purple and half yellow. I’m too afraid to go near the table.
After that, my grandmother is making salad, and suddenly I see that instead of a pepper there is a snake on the cutting board, and I start screaming because I’m afraid that it will bite her. Then the snake does bite her, but then my dream cuts to some time later, when my grandmother is fine and the snake is chopped in the salad.

I had a dream where I was walking along the shores n I didn’t notice the white snake sleeping there.. I had a call from my mother, to go to her in a tent nearside I went close enough, when I realised that a white snake is sleeping there, it didn’t bite me even then when I was passing being very close, I bent a bit down to ensure whether its really a white snake or no?? I wasn’t harming that snake, I was just ensuring whether its really a white snake or something else?? When I bent a little down that time the snake bit me on my left leg. I felt I would die, bt it was nonvenomous white snake which bit me . can you tell me what it mean??
