Connect your Snake Dream with your Life

Here are dream interpretation hints to guide the analysis of your snake dream. A general interpretation method consists in associating traits that belong to the animal you dreamed about with situations in your waking life or aspects of your personality. You may find that the following generic snake characteristics are present in your dream, as well as in your daily life.

  • Snakes are wild, untamed animals that cannot be trained. They are beyond our control.

Interpretation hint: Look if you are currently experiencing feelings or a situation that feel that way in your waking life; look withing to see if you need to pay attention a an untamed part of yourself that needs more space to express itself or develop harmoniously.

  • Snakes are unpredictable. They tend to strike by surprise; they appear unexpectedly and disappear as fast as they showed up.

Interpretation hint: Can you associate these qualities with a fear you may be having or your own behavior when facing a challenging situation?

  • They primarily evoke aversion and fear in humans.

When snakes and humans meet, there’s a danger that the snake will attack, mostly as a reaction to fear or feeling threatened.

  • Snakes move close to the ground and are associated with the earth.

Interpretation hint: Feel into your own connection with the earth; whether you feel grounded, with your feet on the ground or not; how you relate to your primal instincts.

  • Snake shed their skin when they grow, leaving behind the old during their transformation process.

Interpretation hint: Snakes are great symbols for personal transformation; look at what’s changing in your life or in yourself or what you hope to change or leave behind in order to move on.

  • Some snakes’ venom is poisonous, even deadly, if they bite.

Interpretation hint: Death or the fear of dying in a dream is not to be taken literally. It’s often symbolic of the death of the old and the opportunity to leave behind what you no longer need. It could also represent grieving a loss of something or someone who was important to you.

  • They possess the antidote to their own venom.

Interpretation hint: Often, a challenging situation is also an opportunity to discover something new and take on an opportunity. Look at how this relates to your life right now.

Conclusion: Key Points to Enhance your Dream Interpretation

Here are two key points to refine the interpretation of your dream.

Reconnect with the Snake in your Dream

The snake featured in your dream is most likely a transposed image or symbol of something that’s actually happening or preoccupying you in your daily life. It’s important to remember and recall the presence of the snake as it was in the dream.

For example, you can project yourself back in the dream, recall all sorts of details about what the snake looked like, how it was moving, how you were feeling. You could even imagine you can ask the dream snake questions about its intentions, what message it has for you, etc. This will get you started in decoding what the snake in your dream could symbolize.

Snake Dream & Call from the Unconscious

When interpreting a snake dream, a key point is to keep in mind that the serpent in your sleep means you’re symbolically receiving a wake up call from your unconscious.

Dreaming about a snake is usually an indicator that you need to pay attention to something important that you perhaps have been avoiding or that has escaped your awareness until now. Interpreting your dream will help you discover what it is and what you could do to about it.

When you’re dreaming of a snake, you can use your interpretation to encourage positive changes in your life. A snake dream can function like a two-sided coin: For each negative feeling in the dream, such as fear, apprehension, anxiety, or confusion, there’s an opportunity to realize something positive that will serve you in your waking life.

Bonus: Snake Symbols in Popular Myths and Traditions

The symbolism in a snake dream is primarily anchored in the personal life of the dreamer. Because the snake is a powerful symbol in many traditions and cultures, a snake dream can also be influenced by a wider meaning given to the snake or serpent in one’s culture.

In the Judeo-Christian tradition, the snake tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden. It is tinted with negative connotations and a symbol for temptation, evil, and sin.

In the Hindu tradition, Lord Siva wears a snake around his neck, as a representation of the control of dark forces and temptation. It also symbolizes the power of kundalini, the life force.

In ancient Greek mythology, Medusa is a Gorgon, represented as a woman with snake hair who can turn into stone whoever she looks at. According to the psycho-analytic perspective, it is a symbol for castration or repressed sexual energy.

Another popular Greek myth is about Aesclepius, Greek god of healing and medicine, who inspired rituals where snakes were used. Today, the rod of Asclepius is what we know as the Caduceus, symbol for modern medicine. In our dreams, it represents the opportunity for healing.

The feathered serpent from the Aztecs of South America is a symbol for the creator of life.

I had a snake in my dream today in the morning. I was holding snake in my hand tightly near the head and not allowing snake to escape as it would come back to me. Later I run to terrace and throw snake immediately so that it will go away and I felt relieved because I was holding it tight and was scared where it would die but thank god like a magic snake was very fine and started moving, for few mins I thought its disappeared but then snake came back just behind me, I immediately ran to my aunt home and closed the door, started peeping whether it is trying to enter. But somehow snake could see me and enter the same door where I entered after this I got up from my sleep.

Please help to find out what my dream indicates. As I’m in a situation where not able to convince my parents abt my Love and another side I cannot live without marrying my love. He is my life and a true love which I have found. I don’t want to lose him in my life.. :(

I was at a house, visiting. The temperature dropped and I had to call all the snakes to me, to get them somewhere warm.

I was calling like they were dogs and they were coming to me and following me because I was leading them to safety.

There was no fear, I was patting them, picking them up, carrying them etc.

I just had a dream about a small garden snake. It was slithering through my house I don’t know who noticed it first, but once I did I tried catching it. It started like this flying jumping thing. It jumped one good time I caught it. It was wiggling hard to break free, but I just released it outside. It got right back in I caught it again as I getting ready to put it in the sewer I woke up.

Last night I dreamed about a white snake. Unfortunately I cannot remember the much details about the story. Just that the snake was a big snake, like a boa constrictor, and thick. I think there were some people around, and the snake was not on the floor, was sitting on something (or someone) next to me, almost at eye level. I didn’t see his head, just the body. I was very peaceful, not scared at all, but rather amazed and curious by the fact that this was a white snake which I didn’t think exists. The general feeling in the dream was good.
Would someone be able to interpret this dream? I read few different interpretations online but nothing seems to fit or to give me better understanding on this specifics: white snake, not fearful but good feeling in the dream. Thanks!

More than once I’ve had this dream.. I’m in the wooD’s, no clue where at, and snakes are everywhere, they are not harmful to me. I picked one up and it didn’t bite. At one point I was in a tree and snakes were all it in. All types, on my way down from the tree about 4 or 5 snakes dangle in front of me. I moved then out the way like beads hagging in a door way. I get on the ground and more snakes, they mean me no harm they are just there. And I walk a ways And wake up. I have no fear of snakes I actually love snakes. Just wondering why I have this dream.

The snake was green in color and I felt very scare. You could see the snake actually wrapped around the house by looking through the windows as I moved in different rooms looking for a way out.

I dreamt I was inside a room in my house with some little puppies that I was trying to protect. When I came out of the door I saw a thin black small snake.. It was lying still on the floor outside the door of my room. Because I was trying to protect the puppies inside the room I went out and chop the snake with an axe but before I was able to hit it the little snake bit me…I rushed inside the room and found my husband inside. It old him him and he went outside.. I was hysterical telling everyone in the house about the snake that I chopped and got away but it bit me.. I wasn’t afraid when I got bitten and I was searching for it but all of a sudden a young guy whom I don’t know handed the snake and told me that it’s already dead and cut into half..he showed it to me and I was annoyed of its smell and appearance…

    Please advise what it means…

I have had two dreams in the last week with snakes

The first I was in a house I do not recognise and I was trying to protect my current cat and my Mum’s cat from a HUGE python. The python bite half of my Mum’s cats’ face- the cat was still alive I spent the rest of the dream trying to protect my cat from the snake.

The second dream I was in a shopping centre- like Kmart, with my partner and he thought this creature was a lizard and tried to shoo it away. Then the snake coiled its way up a tree like object and stared me in the face. It was HUGE and black. Then my partner and I left the store.

I’m terrified of snakes. I keep having dreams of sneaks. I dreamed that a small snake got into my home and I am scared and tell my husband to take it out and he does but it kept coming back and each it came back in the house it was bigger. Three times it came back and each time it came back it would see me and come at me and I would run and scream trying to get away from it. The last time it came back it was Hugh and had a big head and it was in my living room on the back of the sofa near my husband. Again scared I told my husband to take it out but as ssoon as the snake saw me it slivered down from the sofa and quickly was in front of me I was screaming till no voice came out and the snake had curled its tail and propped itself up facing me. At that point I could no longer breath and according to my husband I was crouched on the bed and having difficult breathing. In my dream when the snake faced upright I couldn’t breath from the great fear I had.

I dreamed of a very large white snake with yellow blotches. I almost didn’t notice that a it was a snake until I had almost walked right up to it. I remember not feeling afraid of it, just sort of surprised that it was there at the front of the church. But then at the same time I sort of expected it would be there. It was sort of like Hmmm…okay, now that I am looking I see your head and I recognize who you are. The snake did not make any movement or sound. It just remained coiled in the shape of a pyramid with its head sort of tucked away.

This dream was a few years back but I have been beating my head in trying to understand it ever since.

I’m in the back seat of a car. My little sister is driving english style and there is a big brown dog in the passenger seat (for some reason I think this is dog is my friend Ivan)
Next to me is a huuuuge snake sitting right up on the seat. The snake slowly starts to wrap around me and I nervously start talking to the snake, thinking if I’m friendly it won’t hurt me. The snake talks back. Then it starts to bite me everywhere. I ask why and the snake just replies “because”. I ask my sister to drive me to the E.R. but the car won’t get there. Then we somehow get out of the car and I get a gun from the back and try to shoot the snake. Only one bullet and I miss. Then I start to run because now the snake is reeeally angry. It repeatedly goes for attack and I jump to avoid the bites. At some point I start almost floating away from it, doing double jumps like in games.

    i just don’t get it….please help me understand…

I was in a garden or zoo or of somekind and there are trees, bushes everywhere with fenses at some places and it is dark and raining. I am aware that few people are there but no idea who they are. I am walking around and may be trying to get of the place. But the place is filled with all kinds of snakes particularly cobras. they are on earth, trees, hanging etc., But I have not felt any fear about them and I think they have not felt enimity with me,they considered me more like an aquaintance. I was walking and going everywhere observing, avoiding snakes and removing them from the path. I came face to face with a python and he smiled at me (if snakes can smile) and started chasing me and I also ran laughing. It was more like a cop and thief game where cop chases the thief. After that I was explaining to somebody (not seen in the dream and probably afraid of snakes) not to worry about snakes and telling that person that we can kill the snakes. I took a snake and beaten him to pulp with club, I think the snake is alive but unconscious. Anyhow I have no intention of killing it. And showed to the person saying dont be afraid of snakes. After that I wandered the place littered with snakes and I was getting bored of being stuck in that place. Thats all I could remember. This is one crazy dream I had today. Hope you people enjoyed it and possibly can interpret it.

Dreamers found their own reality. Someone is cilalng I\’m in the kitchen with my dad. He asks the name of my friend. His name is pronounced as You-are-right . I repeat it several times and then I realize this can not be a real name. Suddenly my dads phone is ringing next to me. Should I pick up?I have a false awakening and take my cellphone. It is not working? Maybe this is a dream And then I have another false awakening. My phone is ringing. I realize that I am dreaming and take my phone. I\’m a little scared, I feel some tension when I take the phone. I pick up. Hello? I wait for some seconds but because of the tension I don\’t feel like waiting long. I don\’t hear someone on the other side and disconnect. I lose lucidity and think I just woke up, my computer is still on and I talk to a friend at msn, I tell him this experience I had. But I do feel very tired and have to do my best to stay awake on the other hand, I have to talk about this experience to someone so I stay up and tell everything. My friend tells that it can help if I rub my eyes, and so I try but it doesn\’t work, I\’m still tired. I go back to bed. (And wake up for real) Post package I\’m in the kitchen and it seems that some files are lost. I check my computer and there are the files lost too. I ask my stepdad to fix it, he believes that our computers have been hacked. But then I realize that the files can not be missing in the computer at the kitchen because that computer is not mine! I hope he can fix mine anyways. Then he starts to laugh. 2 huge post packages arrived, they are for me. The size is as big as the box they delivered my piano in, some months ago sooo big! I look what\’s in it and there is a message which tells that I am one of the winners who receive this information package . Well damn, there is a lot of information indeed. Dozens of information sheets, special magazines etc what is this all about? I do remember that I have asked some companies for information but I have no idea what this is all about. Message in the air I\’m walking with a friend outdoors when suddenly I see the sun between 2 roofs. Because of the shadow, it looks like a heart. I want to take a picture but then the heart shape disappears. Then we see something new: words in the sky. We believe that there is a boy flying in a stunt plane and create a message for his girlfriend. This is so romantic! I take my camera with me and try to take a picture of it. When I look to the result, there is not the picture of the clouds and the words, but something else: a picture of a tree with birds so close to the camera lens that the image has lost his focus and the birds are kinda blurry. Then we see ashes falling down on the ground, we take shelter at some overhang with other people. We believe that the ashes are some dirt left by the stunt of that boy. One of the other people, my uncle, pushes me so there is a moment that I am not hiding at the overhang but have some ashes all over me. I don\’t know why he is doing this?That\’s all about the message dreams. However, the last dream broke the pattern of the message theme. It\’s a repeating dream because this is the second dream in the last few days in which I was traveling with that friend. Train travel Twins I\’m waiting at the train for my friend. He gets in and we give each other a hug. The train is leaving but there is one door still open now that is dangerous! We hug again and then he kisses my nose and then.. on the mouth. I\’m very surprised, in a good way but we need to find a safe place to sit. We walk to the next train wagon and there is an old man telling us that there is almost no room left. But I enter anyways and find that there are a lot of comfortable places left. I drop my stuff and see that there is also a television playing, there is also a piano wow this wagon is huge! My friend sees the piano and wonder if he can still play a song. While, an old teacher of mine appears, he\’s looking for 2 old classmates of mine, who are twins. What\’s the English word for Tweelingen? , he asks. Twins! , I answer and he leaves. I have to go to the bathroom, so I leave this wagon for a moment to find it. A moment later, another friend of mine arrives and go sit next to me. He has 3 objects with him and he has to chose one of them but he can\’t. Pick this one, and I point to the green one. I use a lot of green lately in my art journals. He wants to make a joke, that he want something in return for me choosing the object. But then he realizes that maybe, I can take it personally so he shuts up. I push him to tell it anyways and so he says. Well, don\’t mind it, really.. it\’s not like it will be something deep or personal but I was about to ask you a kiss. EOD\’s. Feelings: the false awakening dreams felt kinda..strange. I felt kinda scared and had the feeling I was not ready to hear the other on the other side of the phone. I think I\’m always a little scared when I have these kind of dreams but it\’s a very long time ago when I had these I pick up the phone and listen – dreams. In the other dreams there are not really strong emotions included. When I woke up from the last one, I could remember anything but the kiss. And then pOOf! I remember what happened first and I had to laugh about it. In some way I was kinda happy about this dream because it\’s a friend who will arrive here in 2 weeks IF he gets his visa documents. And we are still waiting for that, so it gave me some good hope. Feedback is much appreciated!LindsayLike +1

In my dream I was back in my childhood back yard which was always filled with trees. I was sitting in a tree where I was approached by a large beautiful colored snake. I looked around and they were all over. I wasnt scared they seem to be friendly and I felt comfortable and at peace with them. (by the way I have always been afraid of snakes) they were so pretty and amazing. They didnt talk but it was like I just knew they werent there to hurt me. I would like to know why they came to my dream and what this dream stands for. confused???

In my dream last night my husband was walking in a field. I started walking up to him up a small hill to get to where he was and when I got up there I saw a snake chasing him. The snake wasn’t chasing him fast and agressively or trying to bite him or anything, just moving slowly and more like following or stalking him. My husband was facing toward the snake and running backward away from it zigzaging back and forth trying to get it to stop following him. I remember the snake was very long but don’t remember what it looked like, just that I kept thinking it was a rattlesnake. I ran my car to go drive to find a stick or something to use to try to distract the snake away from my husband but I couldn’t find anything so I drove back to where he was and as I was running back toward where I last saw him I saw a female park ranger and told her my husband was being chased by a rattlesnake. We both ran up the hill to where the land leveled out I couldn’t see him or the snake anywhere. Me and the ranger ran around looking for my husband and eventually i ran over toward a wooded area. There was a small group of people standing there commenting to eachother about the tall trees. Then I noticed a small pond about 100 ft awat from the people, partially overgrown with plants and branches and my husband was in there under the water kicking his arms and legs like he was stuck. I reached in and grabbed his hand and he climbed right out of the water like nothing ever happened and he didn’t know what I was freaked out about. He said the snake just went away. No idea how he ended up in the pond. I am afraid of snakes in person, but think they’re fascinating creatures. What does this dream mean?

I was in my grandparents house that has been out of family for a long time now. I had lived there previously when it still belonged to my family. There is a hessian bag of sorts hanging from the ceiling in the kitchen and I wake 2 snakes that are in the bag. The are yellow poisonous snakes. One is chasing me in the house. I am now back in the kitchen with the other snake hanging out of the bag watching me as I now have the first snake by its neck and fighting to hang on to it to kill it. I don’t what to do next. My dad appears and I ask him to get a something to kill the snake. He gives me a cheeky grin and says “Just a minute, I need to go pee first”. As humorous as this bit is, I am feeling anxious of being left alone to handle this wriggling poisonous snake and not knowing how to kill it and the other snake is sliding out of bag. I feel my life is in danger.

My dream last night was about two giant yellow pythons chasing me. First they were like tangled at the gate of my house then they started chasing me. There was even a small snake who tried to bite my ass. I was really scared. They don’t care about other people. The snakes were just focused on me. What does it mean? Is it good or bad? Help me.
